Skill Definitions

A/B - Advanced, these are players who have mastered skating skills, and are confident in their stick/puck-handling abilities.  They have a thorough understanding of the game and have the ability to execute plays. The play at this level is fast and requires players to be able to maneuver around others with ease. Most players have typically played in high school or college (and usually recently).

C - Intermediate, these are players who are comfortable with stick handling and skating, and are focused on mastering advanced skating, puck handling, and game concepts. They have experience playing the game, but they are working on strategic concepts such as breakouts, face-offs, power plays, and penalty killing. The play at this level varies, but will be considerably faster than beginner. Rosters may only have 3 players that have played ACHA, NCAA or higher level hockey.

D - Beginner, these are players who are newer and/or learning the game. Some players have never skated before this year. Some may have played on a hockey team before, but are still learning rules of play, positioning, and beginning to learn how to incorporate stick handling with skating skills. This is the slowest speed, as folks are not always confident with stopping, transitions, or tight turns. Rosters may include up to 3 players that are not beginners, but those players are expected to “play down” to match the skill level on the ice. Any intermediate or advanced players that don’t play down will be given two warnings by referees. If player continues to play inappropriately, player will be asked to leave the ice and will not be allowed to play any remaining games.
